Blyth 33' catamaran M.V. 'Scimitar'

 

 

 

-The Fleet-

-Scimitar-

Scimitar, is a Blyth 33' catamaran. Powered by twin turbo 170hp diesel engines, Scimitar is capable of speeds up to 17 knots, and cruises comfortably at around 14 knots. This speed along with the qualities of stability, space, comfort and manoeuvrability that have become synonymous with this hull type, combine to make this vessel ideal for both pleasure cruising and as a work boat. On board is a diesel-powered generator which gives a 240v supply of power for any specialised computer systems used for maritime survey work for which the vessel is ideal.

The wheelhouse is spacious and is well endowed with modern electronics to aid navigation, fish finding, and obtaining weather forecasts. The vessel is also equipped in excess of MCA requirements with life jackets, life belts, life rafts and flares to maximise safety. There is an up to date medical kit on board, the latest in VHF communication technology, and the latest in electronic navigational aids. The boat holds a Category 2 Passenger Carrying Certificiate with a work-boat endorsement.

-Linti-

The second boat in the fleet is the 'Linti', a 7 meter all weather rigid inflatable boat (RIB) which carries 8 passengers and give high speed "James Bond style" excitement and is perfect for landing on deserted islands and remote beaches.Linti is fully equipped with life jackets, waterproof clothing and safty equippment in excess of MCA requirements. The 'Linti' holds a catagory 4 passenger carrying certificate with a work-boat endorsement.

 

-The Crew-

Iain MacDonald
Iain has had a career in the fishing industry that spans over thirty years. His first boat The Harvest Home he bought in 1974, at the age of 24. Since then he has fished for lobster, velvet crab, prawns and scallops, both around Tiree and other areas of the West Coast. He is also a crofter and continues to work the family crofts alongside running Skipinnish Sea Tours with Angus. Iain is an experienced and resourceful mechanic, and has a wide range of highly entertaining stories in English and his native Gaelic.

Iain is 56 and married to Jane, with daughter Isobel, 11 year old twins, Anna and Jamie - and his sheep dog Bob. Iain holds a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate

 


Angus and his bagpipes

Angus, 28 is now an internationally known musician, an award-winning composer, is co-owner of Skipinnish Records, and is now co-owner of Skipinnish Sea Tours. Angus, along with his partner in Skipinnish Records, Andrew Stevenson, were named Scottish Young Entrepreneur of the year in 2005. Angus holds a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat Certificate.

Angus has led a very varied life since leaving school. After a gap year spent working on fishing boats on the Isle of Mull, he went on to study music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Here he teamed up with fellow student Andrew Stevenson to form the band Skipinnish, and later the record company Skipinnish Records. After graduating with honours in 2002 he returned home to Tiree to work as a fishing boat skipper. In 2004 Angus left the fishing industry in order to expand Skipinnish Records, and found Skipinnish Sea Tours.
